Tracks (Required Courses)

The courses below are the options available for the three Tracks for the College of Arts and Science major in Information Science. 

Students must complete four advanced courses in their selected primary track and three advanced courses in their selected secondary track. The primary and secondary tracks should be selected from the course areas listed below (Human-Centered Systems, Information Systems, and Social Systems).

Courses taken to satisfy the core course requirements may not be used to fulfill the track requirements.

Additional information on Information Science courses can be found below and in the Information Science section of the Courses of Study. Course information for all other courses in the major can be found in the relevant departments (i.e. AEM, CS, STS, etc.).

Tracks (7 courses)

1. Human-Centered Systems

* Students who take PSYCH 3420 may also count its prerequisite, PSYCH 2050, towards the Human-centered Systems primary/secondary track requirements. Similarly, students who take PSYCH 3800 may also count PSYCH 2800 towards the Human-centered Systems primary/secondary track requirements. At most, one of PSYCH 2050 or PSYCH 2800 can be counted towards the primary/secondary track requirements.

INFO 3152, INFO 4152, or INFO 4320 may count toward the Information Systems OR Human-Centered Systems track, but not both.

INFO 4240 may be used to complete either the Human-Centered Systems or Social System track but not both.

2. Information Systems

* INFO 3152, INFO 4152, or INFO 4320 may count toward the Information Systems OR Human-Centered Systems track, but not both.

3. Social Systems

*Only one of the following can be taken for IS credit; ORIE 4350 or ECON 4020 (formerly ECON 3680). Students who take ECON 4020 (previously offered as ECON 3680) may also count its prerequisite, ECON 3130, towards the Social Systems primary/secondary track requirements.

INFO 4240 may be used to complete either the Human-Centered Systems or Social Systems track but not both.

Note: In addition to completing all IS major requirements, students will need to complete all of the necessary college-level requirements prior to graduation.
