Professor Paul Ginsparg will be seeding and facilitating a discussion entitled "Informal Open Access Update" - a much-requested topic among the grad students.

Over Twenty-five years into the internet era, over twenty years into the WorldWideWeb era, fifteen years into the Google era, and a few years past the Facebook/Twitter era, we've yet to converge on a new long-term methodology for scholarly research communication. Recently, the US President's office of Science and Technology Policy has recommended mandating increased public access to the results of federally funded scientific research. I will recall some of the highlights of the open access debate and the developments that have brought us to this stage, and try to anticipate the near future.  (Ideally, this will be structured more as a discussion than a presentation.)

There will be snacks from Manndible. All are welcome!
