Biography

Xiying is a Ph.D. student in Information Science at Cornell University. Her advisor is Professor Sue Fussell. She received a Master of Science in Human-Computer Interaction/Design from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Software Engineering in China.

Currently, her research focuses on people's experience of consuming energy (resources) in commercial buildings and interactive technology design on motivating sustainable behaviors in organizations. Growing up in a large city in Southern China, she has encountered a number of urban issues such as food and health concern, limited resources, and energy over-consumption. Her experience of living in an urban environment leads to her caring about the sustainable issues in cities and people's quality of life. She is interested in citizens' everyday experience, motivations and encouragement of sustainable behaviors in the urban environment, and sustainable technology design to improve people's quality of life.
