 The interdisciplinary Information Science Minor explores how people interact with technology, bridging humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Students from any Cornell college can choose a concentration that aligns with their interests and career goals.

 The Information Science minor is open to all undergraduate students except Information Science and Information Science, Systems, and Technology majors.

2025-26 Updates:
  • Hotel Students: Six courses are required for the IS Minor; the 2025-26 Catalog is missing HADM 4760, which is required for all Hotel students pursuing the IS Minor.
  • Engineering Students: Five courses are required for the IS Minor; the 2025-26 Catalog incorrectly lists 2 required electives, when only 1 is required.
  • Additional approved courses:
    • INFO 1210 - Info Ethics, Law, and Policy concentration or elective
    • COMM 4010 - Data Science concentration, Information Ethics, Law, and Policy concentration, or elective
    • ECON 4620 - Networks, Crowds, and Markets concentration or elective
    • ECON 3810 - Networks, Crowds, and Markets concentration or elective
    • ENGRG 3605 - Information Ethics, Law, and Policy concentration or elective
    • SOC 4390 - Data Science concentration or elective

Apply for the minor if:

  1. You have completed all required coursework with a grade of “C” or higher; or,
  2. You are in your last semester as an undergraduate and are successfully enrolled in the final course(s) you need to fulfill the minor.
