The Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science is expanding access to artificial intelligence education with the launch of AI for All (INFO 4940), a new virtual summer course designed for high school and college students. The course invites learners from any academic background and any location to explore how AI works and how it is reshaping the world around them.

The course, "AI for All" - Special Topics in Information Science: How LLMs work, their potential, and limitations, introduces students to the fundamentals of modern AI systems, including the large language models that power today’s chatbots, image generators, and other emerging tools. Alongside technical foundations, the course emphasizes the importance of understanding AI’s broader societal implications. Students will examine topics such as data privacy, creative authorship, algorithmic bias, and the impact of automation on labor and opportunity.

“Hands-on learning will be central to the experience,” said Sorin Lerner, dean of Cornell Bowers and an advisor for the new class. “By the end of the program, students will be equipped to engage with AI confidently, critically, and responsibly — skills that are increasingly essential across disciplines, from the humanities and social sciences to engineering, business, and the arts.”

AI for All reflects Cornell’s commitment to making high-quality AI education accessible to a broad and diverse community of learners, preparing the next generation to navigate an AI-driven world.

To sign up, students can register for the course through the School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions
