Accommodations & Flexibility

This course is designed to be inclusive and accessible to all students.

Academic Accommodations

Accommodations are provided in support of equitable classroom access.

Per university policy, this course provides the following accommodations:

  • Disability Accommodations
  • Religious-Observance Accommodations
  • Title IX Accommodations
  • Varsity Athlete Accommodations
  • Medical Accommodations
  • Military Service
  • Other Accommodations

This course has built-in deadline accommodations (slip days). These accommodations are specifically intended to support most student accommodation needs (e.g. disability, religious observance, Title IX, athletic participation, miliary service, medical and mental health concerns, family emergencies, late enrollment, etc.)

If necessary, we will provide reasonable accommodations beyond the built-in accommodations. Contact info4340@cornell.edu well in advance (at least 2 business days) of when you will need the accommodations. The sooner, the better (per university policy, accommodations are not applied retroactively.) Requests for accommodations made within a few hours of a deadline (or after) are unlikely to receive a timely response and may not be able to be accommodated.

Provided Accommodations

All students are provided with the following accommodations in this course.

These accommodations are specifically intended to support most student accommodation needs and should only be used for legitimate reasons (e.g. disability, religious observance, Title IX, athletic participation, miliary service, medical and mental health concerns, family emergencies, late enrollment, etc.)

Slip Day Accommodation

You are provided with a total of 3 slip days for the entire semester. One slip day permits you to submit an assignment (homework or project milestone only) up to 24 hours after the deadline (including weekends, holidays, and breaks) and receive full credit. You may not use slip days on group assignments.

To use your slip days, simply submit your assignment after the original deadline, but before the assignment's slip day deadline. Every 24 hours past the deadline will consume 1 slip day. (1 second passed the assignment's original deadline = 1 slip day.)

The slip day accommodation may not be combined with any other type of deadline extension accommodation. If you receive a deadline extension accommodation, you may not use your slip days to further extend the deadline.

Resubmission Accommodation

All assignments are graded exactly once. However, you are provided with one resubmission accommodation. A resubmission accommodation permits you to resubmit one assignment (project milestone or homework only; class preparation, exams, etc. are ineligible) for full credit one week after your grade for that assignment was returned to you. You may not resubmit group assignments.

Email info4340@cornell.edu to notify us that you wish to use your resubmission accommodation no later than 5 days after your grade was returned to you. We will reopen and extend that assignment's deadline in Canvas by one week (7 days / 168 hours; includes weekends, holidays, and breaks).

We will grade your resubmission from scratch. Your resubmission grade is final, regardless of whether it is higher than your original submission's grade.

No resubmissions, redos, or do-overs are accepted outside your provided resubmission accommodations.

First Oral Exam Retake Accommodation

You are provided with one oral exam retake accommodation. This accommodation permits you to retake the first oral exam within one week of receiving your grade for that exam. (The final oral exam may not be retaken.)

If you retake the first oral exam, your new grade will replace your original grade, regardless of whether it is higher or lower.
