Shiri Azenkot is an associate professor of information science at Cornell Tech, the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

I'm a Principal Researcher in the New York City lab of Microsoft Research, where I’m a member of the Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, and Ethics in AI (FATE) research group, and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Information Science at Cornell University, where I co-lead the initiative on Artificial Intelligence, Policy, and Practice (AIPP).

Natalie Bazarova examines social-psychological and communication processes in social media and mobile interactions, with a particular interest in disclosure and privacy of personal information, wellbeing and mental health, personal relationships and family communication. At Cornell, she is the director of the Social Media Lab hosted by the Department of Communication. Her research has been funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, United States Department of Agriculture, Cornell Institute for the Social Sciences, and Cornell’s Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research. Natalie enjoys interdisciplinary collaborations, and welcomes collaborators and students from different disciplines.
 

Lawrence E. Blume is a professor of Information Science and serves as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for Cornell Bowers. He is also Distinguished Arts & Sciences Professor of Economics. He is a Visiting Research Professor at IHS and a member of the external faculty at the Santa Fe Institute, where he has served as Co-Director of the Economics Program and on the Institute's steering committee. 

Claire Cardie is the John C. Ford Professor of Engineering in the Departments of Computer Science and Information Science. She was the founding chair of the Department of Information Science and led the development of its academic programs. Cardie works in the area of Natural Language Processing (NLP) on topics ranging from information extraction, text summarization, and noun phrase coreference resolution, to the automatic analysis of opinions, argumentation, and deception in text. 

Cristobal Cheyre is an assistant professor of information science. His research focuses on the empirical and experimental analysis of the benefits and costs of emerging information technologies, with an emphasis on generating insights to inform policy and management decisions. He draws on his background as both an engineer and a social scientist to bridge the gap between technology, economics, and policy.

Tanzeem Choudhury is a Professor in Computing and Information Sciences at Cornell Tech and the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, where she holds the Roger and Joelle Burnell Chair in Integrated Health and Technology. At Cornell, Tanzeem directs the People-Aware Computing group and leads the Precision Behavioral Health Initiative, focused on advancing the future of technology-assisted well-being. Tanzeem co-founded HealthRhythms Inc, a company whose mission is to add the layer of behavioral health into all of healthcare. She is also the Senior Vice President of Digital Health at Optum Labs. Prior to Cornell, Tanzeem was an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at Dartmouth College. Tanzeem received her Ph.D. from the MIT Media Laboratory.

Morten H. Christiansen is the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Psychology at Cornell University, Professor of Cognitive Science at the School of Communication and Culture as well as the Interacting Minds Centre at Aarhus University, Denmark, and a Senior Scientist at the Haskins Labs. He is an elected member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters and the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters, and an elected Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science and the Cognitive Science Society. Christiansen is the author of over 250 scientific papers, has edited four books, and authored two monographs. His newest book aimed at a general audience, "The Language Game: How Improvisation Created Language and Changed the World", outlines a radical new perspective on how language works. 
 

Sharlane Cleare is a lecturer of information science. Her research focuses on broadening STEM participation for underrepresented people of color by understanding how various learning experiences influence their intent to persist in STEM. 

Chris Csíkszentmihályi is an associate professor of information science, and an artist, occasional scholar, technology critic, and technologist. His research creates artistic and engineered sociotechnical systems to increase social justice and reconfigure power for the less served. His teaching helps orient and ground students for an ethical life in technology. Prior to joining Cornell in 2020, he was a European Research Area Chair in Portugal and founded the free/libre Rootio Project, a sociotechnical platform for community radio. Csíkszentmihályi has been a professor at universities in the USA and Europe: notably founding and directing the MIT Center for Future Civic Media (C4), dedicated to developing technologies that strengthen communities, and also the MIT Media Lab's Computing Culture group, creating unique media technologies for cultural and political applications. He has been a Radcliffe Fellow and a Rockefeller New Media Fellow, and has exhibited installations and performed on most continents. He currently sits on the board of the DATACTIVE ERC project at the Univerity of Amsterdam and the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Digital Civics at Newcastle University.

Cristian Danescu-Niculescu-Mizil is an associate professor of information science. His research aims at developing computational frameworks that can lead to a better understanding of human social behavior by unlocking the unprecedented potential of the large amounts of natural language data generated online. His awards and honors include a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, Google Research Faculty Award, and numerous Best Paper awards. His work has been featured in popular media outlets such as the New Scientist, NBC's The Today Show, NPR, BBC, WIRED, the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post. Abe Davis is an assistant professor of computer science who specializes in computer graphics, computer vision, and human-computer interaction (HCI). His group brings these areas together to work on new problems at the intersection of different disciplines. Davis completed postdoctoral research at Stanford University and Cornell Tech, and his M.A. and Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, studying electrical engineering and computer science. He earned his undergraduate degree in computer science at Stanford.

Nicola Dell is an associate professor of information science at Cornell Tech, the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, and the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science. She advises Ph.D. and M.S. students in the fields of information science and computer science.

David Easley is the Henry Scarborough Professor of Social Science and is a Professor of Information Science at Cornell University. His research is in the fields of economics, finance and networks. In economics, he and Lawrence Blume work on learning and wealth dynamics. In finance, his work with Maureen O'Hara focuses on market microstructure and asset pricing. In networks, he works with colleagues in the Computer Science department on trading networks and network formation.

Professor Easley recently announced a new measure developed with Cornell colleague Maureen O'Hara and Marcos Lopez de Prado of Tudor Investment Corporation that may be useful in preventing a "flash crash" similar to what happened in May 2010 when the stock market briefly erased almost $1 trillion in value and plunged the Dow Jones Industrial Average into its biggest intraday fall ever. The new volume-synchronized probability of informed trading (VPIN) metric is based on the imbalance of trade relative to the total volume. It identifies flow toxicity, which has been the primary topic of Easley and O'Hara's research over the last 20 years. 

Professor Easley and Professor Jon Kleinberg, Computer Science at Cornell, recently co-authored Networks, Crowds and Markets: Reasoning About a Highly Connected World.  The book is based on the popular undergraduate course, Networks, which they developed at Cornell. It combines different scientific perspectives in its approach to understanding networks and behavior in networked environments. Drawing on ideas from economics, sociology, computing and information science, and applied mathematics, the book describes the emerging field of study that is growing at the interface of all these areas, addressing fundamental questions about how the social, economic, and technological worlds are connected.
 

Deborah Estrin is the Robert V. Tishman ’37 professor of computer science at Cornell Tech and the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science. At Cornell Tech, she serves as the Associate Dean for Impact. She is also an affiliate faculty member at Weill Cornell Medicine.

Nate Foster is an adjunct professor of computer science at Cornell University and a visiting researcher at Jane Street. He currently serves as vice chair of DARPA's Information Science and Technology (ISAT) study group, and as chair of the P4 Language Governing Board.  

Susan Fussell is a professor in the Departments of Information Science and Communication. Her research focuses on interpersonal communication in face-to-face and computer-mediated contexts. Her goals are to enhance our theoretical understanding of the mechanisms involved in conversational discourse and to apply this theory to the design and evaluation of new communications technologies. Fussell's current research areas include intercultural computer-mediated communication, multi-lingual communication, tools to promote energy-saving behavior, human-robot interaction, and collaborative intelligence analysis. With students and collaborators, she examines these issues within a variety of domains, using a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods.

Nikhil Garg is an assistant professor of operations research and information engineering at Cornell Tech, the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, and Cornell Engineering. He uses algorithms, data science, and mechanism design approaches to study democracy, markets, and societal systems at large.

Dr. Geri Gay is the Kenneth J. Bissett Professor of Communication at Cornell University and a Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow. She is also a professor in Information Science and the director of the Interaction Design Lab at Cornell. Her research focuses on social and technical issues in the design and application of interactive communication technologies. Specifically, she is interested in social navigation, persuasive computing, affective computing, social networking, mobile computing, and design theory. Currently, she receives funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Google, National Institute of Health, USDA and private donations.

 
 

Tarleton Gillespie is a senior principal researcher at Microsoft Research, and an affiliated associate professor in the Department of Communication and Department of Information Science at Cornell University. He is the author of Wired Shut: Copyright and the Shape of Digital Culture (MIT, 2007) , co-editor of Media Technologies: Essays on Communication, Materiality, and Society (MIT, 2014), and author of Custodians of the Internet: Platforms, Content Moderation, and the Hidden Decisions that Shape Social Media (Yale, 2018).
