Oral Exam I: A Mock Job Interview

Imagine that you've applied for a job to design apps for a company. The hiring manager has asked you to come in for an interview and talk about your experience designing and developing apps using prototyping. As part of this interview, you'll share some of the work you've done with them and talk through your design and development process.

Format

The mock interview will last a maximum of 15 minutes. (You may finish early, but there is a hard stop at 15 minutes.)

A timer will be present during the interview to help you manage your time. (If you wish to not view the timer, let the interviewer know and they can hide the timer from you.)

There are four questions that the interviewer will ask you.

You should think of the interview as a simple conversation about what you know about prototyping. You should share you experience designing prototype apps. Importantly, this includes your process for designing an app.

You will have your Homework 5 Codespace available to you during the interview. You may not use any other resources during the interview. You may not have any notes, etc.

Preparation

Schedule your interview time slot in Canvas.

Reflect on your experience designing and developing the prototype in Homework 5. Understand how your Homework 5 code words, and be prepared to talk through your design and development process for this prototype.

Working with a peer, practice asking and answering questions with each other. This will help you prepare for the interview format and practice communicating your thought process clearly. It's important that you talk aloud to prepare for this exam. Thinking through your answers silently is not effective preparation.

Your responses will be evaluated for clarity and how effectively you communicated your understanding of the content you've learned in this course.

Before the Interview

Open your Homework 5 Codespace and have it up and running to share with the interviewer when the interview starts. (If your Codespace is not running, you can start it during the interview, but it will use part of your 15 minutes.)

Wait until the interviewer calls you to start the interview.

The exam timer starts exactly at your scheduled time, even if you are not present or your Codespace is not running. If you arrive late, you will have less time to answer the questions.
