Client Presentation Pitch + Demonstration
Briefly and concisely present your app and give a demo to the "client".
Learning Objectives
- Briefly present your work to an unfamiliar audience.
- Concisely demonstrate an app to a new audience.
Help & Support Resources
We want you to get the help and support you need. Use the course's support resources for help with this assignment.
Teamwork
Working effectively together is every team member's responsibly. If there's a conflict, address it. Don't pretend that the conflict will simply go away.
Resolving Conflict
Conflict is a healthy part of any team relationship. If your team doesn't have conflict, then your team members are likely not communicating their issues with the other team members. This is bad. Use a team contract to keep your team dynamic healthy.
When you have conflict, you should follow this procedure:
-
Refer to the team contract and follow it.
-
If you resolve the conflict without issue, great! Otherwise, update the team contract to improve your ability to work together moving forward. This is required.
-
With the updated team contract, try to resolve the conflict.
-
If that fails, please contact the instructor. I'll ask to meet with all the group members and figure out how we can work together to move forward. I will not help your team unless I see that the team contract has been updated to try and resolve the conflict internally first.
-
Do not, under any circumstance, avoid confrontation if you have conflict. If there's a conflict, the best way to handle it is to bring it into the open and address it.
The Slacking Team Member
Do not cover for a team member who is slacking. This only rewards their bad behavior. Never put a team member's name down for a submission if they did not contribute. This is a violation of the code of academic integrity.
Tip: If you have a team member who is not contributing, have them work on non-essential work the project. Maybe that's making them responsible for a designing/coding an optional top-level view. If this view doesn't get made, since it was non-essential, that's okay. If it does, great!
Part I: Plan your Presentation Pitch and Demo
Working with your team, plan a presentation to introduce your project and pick a task scenario to demo with your app prototype.
Requirements
Professionalism is a primary learning objective of this course. This presentation will not be graded leniently. You should treat this presentation as a professional presentation to a client.
You must meet all the following requirements for full credit:
-
Your presentation should introduce the project, its goals, its users, and the users' goals.
I suggest starting your presentation by introducing a persona with a task scenario.
-
Demo your app prototype (installed as PWA) during the presentation using a task scenario.
Walk the client through how a persona would use the app to complete a task scenario.
-
Your presentation and demo should be around 1 minute, but no longer than 2 minutes.
Practice your presentation and time your team. If you exceed your 2 minutes, you will be cut off.
-
Each member of your team should participate in the presentation.
You can divide up the presentation however you like, but each member of your team should participate in the presentation.
If a member of the team does not participate in the presentation, that member will receive 0 credit for the presentation.
-
Your presentation should be well-prepared and well-rehearsed.
You should practice your presentation and demo with your team before the showcase. Do not "wing it." This is a professional presentation, and you should treat it as such.
-
Do not use slides for your pitch or presentation.
You should be able to concisely pitch your work in a professional networking environment. Slides are not appropriate for this type of presentation. You should be able to pitch your work without slides.
Instructions
-
Create a task scenario to demo with your app prototype.
Recall that a task says what the user wants to do, not how to do it. A task scenario is a task + persona + context.
Choose a task scenario that is representative of your app's primary functionality.
Example:
App: GPS aware app that helps first responders contact the right people at the location of an emergency.
Jamie is a first responder (persona) who just arrived to an emergency. There is a car stuck on the railroad tracks (context). Jamie wants to immediately identify the railroad company, contact them to share the location of the emergency, and request that they stop any trains (task).
-
Plan your presentation.
You should think of your "presentation" as an elevator pitch. At a minimum, you should communicate your audience, share your final implemented app, and how your design addresses the primary goal of your audience(s).
-
Practice your pitch and demo.
First pitch your project and then demo it using a task scenario.
Your demo should run on an installed PWA on the device(s) your prototype is supporting.
Part II: Presentation Pitch and Demo
During the last class, pitch and demo your design to the client and your peers.
Requirements & Credit
Credit: ~40 points (correctness)
We will grade this project milestones holistically. There is no rubric. A presentation will recieve full credit if the presentation clearly and concisely communicates the primary goal of the app and how the design addresses that goal. The demo effectively demonstrates the app's core functionality through a task scenario.
If the expectations or requirements of this milestone are unclear, seek clarification from the instructor in advance of the deadline.
Professionalism is a primary learning objective of this course. Arriving to a client's presentation on time demonstrates professionalism.
Attend and present during the last class, Tuesday, May 5th, 2025 from 10:10am to 11:25am.
To receive full credit, you must arrive to class on time. Class starts exactly at 10:10am. Partial credit is provided for late arrivals of less than 5 minutes from the start of class (letter grade reduction). Arrivals of 5 or more minutes late from the start of class receive 0 credit for the presentation. No exceptions.
Instructions
-
Set up your demo in the classroom.
-
Visit the demos of your peers.
-
When the instructor (i.e. client) visits your demo, present your pitch and demo.
-
Have fun!
It's really exciting to see what your peers have created. Enjoy the showcase and celebrate what you and your peers have accomplished this semester!
