Michael A. Hedderich is a postdoctoral researcher at Cornell University, working with Qian Yang at the intersection of NLP and AI with HCI. His research goal is to open up machine learning to more fields and domains by developing approaches that require less training data, by improving the interpretability of complex machine learning models, and by evaluating with a focus on human-computer interaction to ensure that new methods perform better in real-life and not just on the leaderboard. To this end, he is working on both foundational methods as well as applications in fields ranging from archeology to medical research.

Michael completed his PhD in Computer Science at Saarland University, Germany. His past research affiliations include Aalto University, Rutgers University, Disney Research Studios, and Amazon.
